Legacy of Love Live Arts became a registered non-profit Society in the fall of 2009, but has a long history of successful productions of musicals and musical revues since 2001.
Kersley Musical Theatre - Began as a community theatre venture in the small community of Kersley, 2001, and the response was so overwhelming the project had to continue with an annual musical theatre production each early spring.
We are now in our 9th production, ‘LiL Abner’, based on the cartoon strip by Al Capp, having had sold-out productions of Beauty & the Beast, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, Wagon Wheels West, Annie, and our first, Anne of Green Gables over the past years.
We celebrate with huge casts, large numbers of volunteers and incredible support from the community.
Youth Entertaining for Service - A dedicated troupe of performers has grown out of a girl’s group that presented the Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program to the high schools of Quesnel. A musical revue was developed, by the youth with guidance, and shows presented to the community raised funds to bring the Canadian representative of the Yellow Ribbon to town.
The youth are committed to this worthwhile program, the revue is better each year.
The shows have been the ‘Fabulous Fifties’,’Swing the Mood’ (music from the 40’s), ‘Feeling Groovy ‘( music from the 60’s) and the ‘Gone Country’ show. The upcoming show (2010)will be Rock & Roll. All participants volunteer, and the live band is wonderful.
The community is very involved in these revues, lots of donations are recieved and other community groups assist and have opportunities to benefit ( e.g. running concession).
The Y.E.S group were awarded the Chamber of Commerce’s Community Spirit Award in 2009.
So their mandate could expand, the youth chose the name Y.E. S. to exemplify the attitude to service, and as the youth grew and matured, another group has naturally developed to work with young students on another project, Compassion in Action.
These young people are developing a musical program to take into elementary schools to confront the issue of bullying by a more positive message of learning to be kind. They plan to travel to School Districts all over B. C and Alberta.
They have the opportunity to workshop with professional performers as part of their training, so they are learning skills that will stand them in good stead in the future. They are also role models for young people that they come into contact with.
As of 2009/10 year, the troupe consists of:
Richard Sutton, Rachel Baker, Jill Simpson, Cara Butler,
Jon Simpson, Jon Matheson, Amanda Butcher, Lindsay Johnston,
Lacey McDonald, Kelsey Graham, Jeff Sandve, Don Peeke-Vout,
Donald Coleman, Robert Mankowske, Sarah Plant, Myles Olsen,
Brock Olsen, Katharine Mankowske and Laura Coleman.
